It’s finally here, the holiday you’ve been waiting for. Ever since you booked the flights and the fabulous hotel, you’ve been counting down the days until you can bid farewell to the usual responsibilities, and just enjoy some time away to rest, relax, unwind and explore somewhere new.
But we all know one of the biggest tasks when it comes to a summer holiday is packing. It can be really tricky to get the right balance between taking too much or too little, especially if you’re going somewhere and the weather forecast looks a little unpredictable.
Luckily for you, we’ve researched our all-time favourite packing tips to make the daunting task that bit easier. Follow our top tips to become a packing pro before you can say the word ‘holiday’.
For peace of mind and to reduce last-minute worry and stress, use a holiday packing list which is full of the everyday holiday essentials. You can write your own list or alternatively, there are plenty of good ones online. We really like this list from Skyscanner.
Be absolutely sure to remember your holiday essentials:
Passport – firstly, make sure it’s in date and then make sure it’s packed! Of course, you’ll need it in the airport so pop it somewhere handy. Plus, remember your visa details if one is needed.
Travel insurance – print out your documents and keep them somewhere safe.
Currency – have some cash on you in case you need it for a taxi ride or refreshments as soon as you arrive.
Your accommodation address printed out – you can still tell a taxi driver where you need to get to, even if you can’t access your phone.
When packing your clothes, roll them instead of folding them. Nobody wants to spend the first few hours of their holiday doing a pile of ironing. To save space and stop creasing, roll your clothes instead of folding them. If you want to save even more space, place them in vacuum compression bags. To use these bags, put your clothes in, seal the bag, then squeeze the air out.
If you’ve ever experienced the headache of losing your luggage, you’ll know how annoying it can be. One way to avoid this problem is to spruce up your suitcase. Label it carefully with luggage tags and give it a bit of a makeover to make sure you can spot it on the carousel – decorate it with colourful ribbons, stickers or even colourful shoelaces so it’s instantly recognisable.
In case of a luggage loss or mix-up, it’s always worth packing an outfit change in your hand luggage. Simply add a clean set of underwear and a garment in your carry-on bag. Remember to always pack your valuables in your hand luggage too.
We hope these tips have helped and that you have a wonderful summer holiday wherever you’re going!
