We’ve all been there when it comes to gym motivation (or lack of!)… “I’m too tired”, “I have too much to do” and the old classic, “I’m washing my hair that evening” are common excuses we’re all guilty of using when it comes to a date with the gym.
But we all want to look and feel our best for the summer – both mentally and physically. When it comes to working out, it isn’t just the physical benefits that make it worthwhile, a gym session is also great for your mental wellbeing and can lift your spirits thanks to the rush of endorphins.
When it comes to gym motivation, there are some simple and easy tricks that will make you want to jump on the treadmill at 6pm, or show up for that kickboxing class without cancelling.
Pack your bag the night before
Put everything you need in your gym bag before you go to bed. Remember your gym outfit, sports bra, trainer socks, trainers, gym towel, headphones and water bottle. Then there are no excuse if you’re running late in the morning. We love the Iona gym range from Laura Ashley, especially the gorgeous gym bag (£45) and flask (£22).
Put together a stress-busting workout playlist
Listening to loud music while you’re working out can be a brilliant stress reliever after a long and busy day at work. If you’re stuck for inspiration, there are plenty of ready-made playlists online. We don’t think you can ever go wrong with a bit of Beyoncé for that ultimate girl power workout!
Treat yourself to trendy trainers
Something as simple as buying new trainers can make you want to put them to good use. Next has a fantastic range, including this pair pictured – we love the splash of orange on them (£34).
Variety is the spice of life – mix up your workouts
It’s only natural to feel bored if you’re doing the same workout each time. Try to mix up your cardio with weight training, and throw in some HIIT (high intensity interval training) which is great for fat burning. Laura Ashley’s Iona range features some fabulous workout accessories, including yoga mats, hand weights, a resistance ring, an exercise block and an exercise roller.
We hope our tips help you find your exercise inspiration this summer! You can find Next and Laura Ashley, plus much more, at Elephant Yard.
