We all love summer; who doesn’t like the sunshine, the thought of holidays on sandy beaches and endlessly long summer evenings. Two weeks on holiday in the scorching sun can play havoc with your hair though and leave you feeling like hiding away in your hotel rather than joining the party outside.
To save you from hair disasters we have got some great tips for looking after your locks this summer.
Stepping out into the sunshine
If you are jetting off to somewhere sunny then get a haircut before you leave. It will tidy up all those ends and get your hair in top shape. It might also be a good excuse to try out a new, shorter look.
For anyone already with a super short style, getting a trim before you go is a must if you want to avoid a dodgy tan line on the back of your neck!
On the beach style
Braids or ponytail, a classic way to wear your hair and still very much on-trend. Wear your braid loose or tight, your ponytail high or slicked back, either will keep your sea soaked hair out of your face during the day and still look fun and stylish when you hit the bar at night.
Cooling off and chilling out
Wash your hair less frequently if you are out in the sunshine a lot. If you need to get the beach or pool out of your hair then try just rinsing under the shower. If you really can’t go a day without washing your hair than have a go with a natural dry shampoo, but always remember to apply a dry conditioner to the ends as well.
Keep it natural with a hot oil mask of either coconut, macadamia nut or avocado, or use a leave in conditioner to put back the moisture the sun’s heat has taken away.
It might be tough but avoid the straightners and hairdryer and let your hair dry naturally. If you can’t give up the blow drying then make sure you use the nozzle to give some protection and keep on a low heat.
To stop those nasty knots, and the not so stylish bed head look in the morning, loosely tie your hair on the top of your head (a bit like a pineapple) to stop any tangles while you are tossing and turning in bed at night.
If all else fails and you end up with a hair nightmare then you certainly won’t look out of place keeping your hair tucked away under a stylish hat. Hats are a must have fashion accessory this summer in a huge range of colours, fabrics and styles; from colourful straw hats, to the Boater Sun Hat and the Chevron-banded Fedora Hat.
