Community Treats - Helping Children Blossom at Heron Hill School!

Posted Thursday, 21 April 2011, 10.31am

The second Elephant Yard Community Treat goes to Heron Hill Primary School to help them further develop a quiet garden area started 3 years ago by a group of Year 5 and 6 children.

Additional funding has been tricky to obtain since it was started, although help in it's construction has been offered by Kendal College and Kirbie Kendal students who will make raised beds, benches etc and help with digging and planting.

Kate Maddock, Deputy Head at the School says:

"We are keen to use the land as our playground area is relatively small for the number of pupils who use it. The garden would provide a quiet place for those who do not want to chase around or play football at playtimes. Additionally, the garden would be used as an outdoor classroom where children could learn more about their environment, grow vegetables and flowers and have lessons outdoors in a small covered seated area. We aim to put large wooden games and outdoor musical instruments in the garden too. The children would be delighted to have an alternative space in which to spend their playtimes and the garden would support many aspects of our curriculum. "

Elephant Yard are very pleased to be able to give you this Community Treat to help the pupils of Heron Hill School blossom in the great outdoors!
